HAIKU FUNERAL –
"HALLUCINATIONS" (
AESTHETIC DEATH RECORDS
2016)
This is the fourth album released by the always amazing french ensamble, Haiku Funeral. A work that - despite referring to black metal guidelines – intends to break down as well as to mix them through a free approach that covers industrial, doom, ambient and an emotional pride so as to get out of any other previous patterns. We are facing a kind of music that makes of its challenging listening the most dangerous weapon by being so full of nuances and references sometimes evident, sometimes underlying. The instrumental value of the project has a huge impact if it’s true that the rhythm section is managed by two star players like William Kopecky and David Lillkvist who have the amazing skills to sustain all the Dimitar Dimitrov’s conflicting and unexpected drawings created by his own instruments and his voice. |
Kopechy’s full and distorted bass as well as Lillkvist’s relentless drums act as the scenery to environmental drones, mysterious liquidities, whispered voices through a crescendo of mystery and elusiveness by developing a texture that could be defined “esoteric” for its ways of musical expressions. You should listen to this album continuously so as to enjoy its various aspects, including some sonorous ambushes as well as gothic drifts. A really amazing track surely is Гласът (The voice), while “Suicide Organ” is practically a spoken word accompanied by the darkest fretless looming with a remarkable expressionism. |
