INTERVIEW WITH PAUL RANDOLPH
Paul Randolph is one of those musicians who surely has to deal with the greatest things and not with the little ones. This interview proves that, as you will read in it something about his own main influences, listenings as well as his own musical background. Then you will find there’s so much on the table and all of that is concrete.
Let’s talk about a bassist, a singer and a producer; he’s been able to dress up his bass with (P)Funk, to sing brilliantly together with Jazzanova, to play blues tinged with soul and electronic music or vice-versa, by crossing boundless lands but bordering as well: a free zone where soul, house, funk and much more live together in harmony. Paul Randolph can be found in that border area, and we can only be impressed by his unexpected sound in a surprise move. In addition to the celebrated collaboration with Jazzanova, Paul has recorded a varied range of solo albums, starting from “This is... what it is” maybe the most funk one, strictly speaking, continuing with the excellent and soulful “Loneley Eden”, and ending with his collaboration with the legendary dub step producer Zed Bias in the album “Chips'n'Chittlins”. It wouldn't be any wonder if Paul held something for us in the course of this 2016… Before I leave you to our interview, I can definitely say that Paul Randolph is indeed an artist who needs to be deeply explored and also followed in his own spontaneous movements towards the very fine music, that is to say a music not bound by labels and by any pejorative cataloguing criteria but that should be the authentic form of expression, as Paul has been showing over these years. |
