INTERVIEW WITH TERRY DARK
Listening to Jameson Raid’s “Uninvited Guests” makes difficult to rationally explain yourself that you’re faced with a legend of NWOBHM, a true institution founded back in 1975; that’s because this album, edited by the very active german label Pure Steel Records, sounds modern and powerful like the very few newest bands who are present on still crowded metal universe.
“Uninvited Guests” is a work that certainly has its roots in the unique miracle of sound that New Wave Of British Heavy Metal made possible, but it uses its expressive beauty definitely with a modern, valuable and vibrant approach as well as a cool one: the point is that we have here a model of professionalism in making music especially as regards hard rock. Nothing improvised or casual about it. Jameson Raid, who were authors in the past of EP and compilation albums, come back in 2015 with a very innovative and professional record, I repeat, in an exemplary fashion. In Terry Dark’s music and members there’s a specific project as well as the skills; we are far from the mild repetition of standard patterns. And certainly I’m not the first one to find out the evidence of a band who was able to be a legend–and in some way they still are. Without constraints from a kind of record production markets often unfair and shortsighted, Jameson Raid have been one of the most inflammatory live act of the hard rock scene and this studio record proves it. This is an album, “Uninvited Guests”, that I recommend. Pure Steel Records is a well distributed and worth label in the current metal music landscape, and which is able to combine the present and the past with such enlightened aplomb. Jameson Raid deserve more than an interested listening; their music is strong and surprising. I talk about that with the band’s frontman and songwriter Terry Dark, a very available and clever person, and naturally I dedicate the necessary space to the bassist, Pete Green, who in this record has distinguished for his own dynamic and vigorous contribution as well as for his central role which is as electric bass should be in heavy metal. |
