“Telescope Road” promises to be one of the record surprises of this 2017. Based in Marseille, this album is an inspiring and successful encounter between three high-value musicians: the bassist William Kopecky (Kopecky, Far Corner, Haiku Funeral, Yeti Rain, Pär Lindh Project), the guitarist Alain Chiarazzo (member of the legendary band Eclat) and the finnish drummer David Lillkvist (Pär Lindh Project, Gjallarhorn). |
This album which consists of six tracks, ideally includes a “cosmic” and never empty kind of fusion that - even exuding the background of all three engaged artists - shows an undoubted originality as well as an expressive curiosity which is far from being satisfied with a single recording. The term “fusion” is appropriate particularly when focused on the fusion of many elements, eastern-tinged phrasing, a “progressive” approach, even a pop sensibility (Fireworks and January Skies, with the south african singer Sbongile Mbambo) indeed on a track as “Eat your heart out” that mixes rock, funky and… country, in favour of a music that rejects any preordained categorization. |

The instrumental skill of the three musicians is of high-profile; Alain Chiarazzo proves to be refined, flexible and strong; Lillkvist’s sound is central and robust, full of personality as well as of style; William Kopecky is sumptuous on his fretless. Kopecky proves to be, once again, one of the most innovative and courageous bassists of our time. He’s extremely comfortable with an instrument like fretless that is always likely to evoke disturbing shadows. Kopecky owns a peculiar and powerful sound that is certainly not lacking in sometimes required harmonious “complications”. It’s very considerable in this sense the work on the first track called “Crystal Revenge” and “Moonfever”, but the tension in the bass sound remains high throughout the duration of the album. |
