ENIO NICOLINI AND THE OTRON

Enio Nicolini has come back after four years from the lacky and really amazing album Heavy Sharing. Also in this new record the bassist chooses an atypical instrumental framework by giving priority to the central role of bass in this case mixed with an original use of electronic inserts by Former Lee Warner, in addiction to the great voice of Ben Spinazzola. Sergio Ciccoli (Scala Mercalli) plays with vibrant skill the beautiful drum tracks. |
Torna Enio Nicolini, a quattro anni dal fortunato e molto piacevole “Heavy Sharing”. Anche in questo nuovo lavoro, il bassista sceglie una configurazione strumentale atipica, privilegiando la centralità del basso, in questo caso mescolato ad un uso originale di inserti elettronici, ad opera di Former Lee Warner, e alla potente voce di Ben Spinazzola. Sergio Ciccoli (Scala Mercalli) provvede con esuberante competenza alle belle parti di batteria. |

It’s not a leap to define this new album of Enio Nicolini as “Cybermetal” both as regards the concept and the sound expression. All the bass lines are strong and urgent, and they determine the pace of the tracks in a decisive way. But as much as the metal approach is evident, the “other” influences stand out with clear coherence; without falling into heresy you may notice some undeniable dark wave nuances. The title track is a true program manifesto; the second track called “Ramses W 45” is simply amazing with a dense and overwhelming bass; the unsettling “Nanoids In My Head” shows a scowl halfway between punk and post-punk, thanks to the skillful Spinazzola. |
Non è operazione azzardata definire questo nuovo album di Enio Nicolini “cybermetal”, tanto da un punto di vista concettuale che di espressione sonora. Le linee di basso sono potenti e incalzanti, e determinano l’andamento dei brani in modo decisivo. Per quanto l’approccio metal sia comunque esplicito, le influenze “altre” emergono con nitida coerenza; senza cadere in eresia si possono notare delle contaminazioni dark wave innegabili. Autentico manifesto programmatico è la title track; splendida la seconda traccia, “Ramses W45”, con un basso denso e devastante; con un cipiglio tra punk e post-punk l’inquietante “Nanoids In My Head”, con un efficacissimo Spinazzola. |

“Night Of The Hunt” results almost in doom and dark areas, with a feral and disquieting pace. The powerful of Nicolini’s bass keeps away, here too, the ghosts of guitars which that won't be missed also on “Heavy Sharing”. All the tracks even though they’re united by a martial and esoteric mood, pose no risk of monotony. The bassistic riff at the end of the last track, “Timeless Love”, is fantastic just like Police closed in a spaceship to the limits of the world. |
“Night Of The Hunt” sfocia quasi in territori doom e dark, con un incedere ferino e angosciante. Anche qui, la possenza del basso di Nicolini tiene lontani i fantasmi delle chitarre, assenti come in “Heavy Sharing”. Tutte le tracce, pur accomunate da un mood marziale ed esoterico, non comportano alcun rischio di monotonia. Fantastico il riff bassistico finale dell’ultima traccia, “Timeless Love”, come dei Police chiusi in una navicella spaziale ai limiti del mondo. |

We of BMF really like this record, because of its courage and coherence, as always it is in the Dna of Nicolini. Only those who confine themselves to the constraints of a that kind of metal necessarily tied to an orthodox as well as unimaginatiive approach could find some problems but just as regards their empathy. Passed with flying colors.

Il disco a noi di BMF è piaciuto molto, perché coraggioso e coerente, come nel DNA di Nicolini. Solo chi si confina nei limiti di un metal obbligatoriamente ortodosso e chiuso a felici innovazioni potrà trovare qualche problema, ma solo di immedesimazione mentale. Promosso con lode.
